 *Mayor of Derby Hospital Cup

At the 1944 AGM it was decided that the full committee look into the following;

Sunday cricket, discussions were held with the Allestree Parish Council. There is a mention of this at a committee meeting held on the 22nd May 1944. Although Allestree Parish Council agreed to the request, it seems that the club decided against playing on Sundays. In the vote by the Council only G. Bullough (an Allestree player) voted against the proposal. The club eventually started playing on a Sunday in the early 1960s and even then several Vice President's resigned from the club in objection. Even in these "modern times", Sunday's were still regarded as a day of rest and churchgoing.

Use of the cricket pitch, it was proposed by Billy Oates that from the 1944 season, the 1st team would play the same way as we do today, whilst the 2nd team would play the opposite way. This was defeated in the committee meeting of the 3rd April 1944 by 5 votes to 1.

Committee Meeting Monday 31st July

Proposed by Mr J. M. Roberts and seconded by Mr A.G. Handy that we do not play the RAOC on Sunday September 3rd 1944, and that the committee give an explanation to the Annual General Meeting for their reason in not giving permission for Sunday cricket. Carried by 8 votes for to 2 votes against. No reason was give at the AGM, at least it was not recorded.
