Allestree 2nd XI v Brush Sports 2nd XI, 5th September 1976
Report Loughborough Monitor 10th September.
This was a tremendous victory for the Brush team. Having been set to make 161 in their allotted 40 over’s, Brush began very poorly, in fact after the first 14 over’s they had scored only 39 and lost 4 wickets.
Then Charlie Smith (50) and Dave Martin (59no) hammered the Allestree bowling unmercifully in a partnership that put on 91 in only 8 over’s. The winning run was eventually obtained in the 25th over.
Paul Wood (22) and Tim Allen (15no) also made very useful contributions to the winning score of 161-5 (Watts 4-35).
Looking back at the Allestree innings, six of their players scored around 20 each headed by Wheway (31) and even though they did reach 160 to contain them to this total was of credit to the Brush bowlers and some good fielding.
Charlie Smith (4-49) and Tim Allen (4-38) took the vital wickets.
